This is a letter written by my sister-in-law, Kathy Esser of Esser Automotive explaining the fight for Anthony’s life. This story just breaks my heart, and all of us at Salon MACKK want to help Anthony and his family raise money to help offset some of the devastating costs they are facing.
“Angels for Anthony”
Anthony Mustari was enjoying his summer like any other 18 year old that had just graduated from High School, having fun with his friends and preparing for the next step. Anthony just recently spent a week in Branson, Missouri with my family as he is great friends with my younger brothers, Pat & Matt O’Connor. Anthony has become “like family” to us and we have become very close with him and his family. Anthony’s parents Lisa & Sal are wonderful people as is Anthony’s older brother Frank.
About 2 weeks ago, Anthony had noticed that he had what we thought to be a spider bite on his leg. Anthony decided to go to the hospital and have it checked out just to be on the safe side. Several hours later, Anthony was being transferred by ambulance to Loyola University Hospital and told that he had Leukemia. After further testing, Anthony was diagnosed with Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendric Cell Neoplasm, which is a very rare form of Leukemia. Anthony’s doctors are searching for a Bone Marrow Donor match for Anthony and he is on day 10 of intense Chemotherapy.
Anthony is a Class of 2012 Graduate of Prairie Ridge High School, he just turned 18 years old and should be hanging out with his friends and enjoying what is left of his summer. Instead, Anthony is fighting for his life and undergoing tests, treatments, surgeries, etc.
The outpouring of Support that Anthony and the Mustari Family have received has been amazing so far. The Prairie Ridge Hockey Team, collected money and purchased a Laptop for Anthony so that he can Skype and stay in contact with his friends and family. Our hope is to help the Mustari Family by collecting donations from our friends, family, co-workers and our surrounding communities. Any amount will help this family during this very scary and difficult time.
We will be hosting a 5K Fundraising walk in Anthony’s Honor on October 7, 2012 at 10 am at Sunset Park in Lake in the Hills. This event is open to the public and there will not be a registration fee, instead we would like to collect donations from our fellow walkers and supporters!
